As we ended off the study of Hebrews yesterday, I never fail to marvel at the grace of God and the goodness of His plan, especially the part of relying on God to please God. Here's a couple of verses to sum it up. Hebrews 13:20-21 - May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
We've seen all through the book of Hebrews that Jesus is the great high priest (4:14) who has completed his work (10:12) having offered himself as a sacrifice once for all. Therefore there is nothing else we can add to our salvation as Christians who place our faith in Jesus Christ. So, having received by faith what we as fallen human beings could never do (save ourselves), we ought to be thankful (12:28-29 - Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire.") and live our lives in response to God's love. The writer of Hebrews instructs on what to do with lots of "let us"es (5 of them in Heb 10), and also at the beginning of chapter 12 - let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. How? 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus and also to rely on God's providence to please Him (13:21). How wonderful and perfect.
As the exams draw near, it's always good to remind ourselves that this world is not all there is. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.(13:14) and follow the examples of the "heroes of faith" and the ultimate example of Jesus himself. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. (11:16)
God saved us -> Our response -> Through reliance on Him
